It is also used in certain patients to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke and death due to coronary heart disease; to slow blood vessel blockage and to reduce the need for medical procedures to open blocked blood vessels. Generic Pravachol is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, also known as a "statin." It works by reducing the production of certain fatty substances in the body, including cholesterol.

Generic Premarin is used for treating certain symptoms of menopause (eg, hot flashes, vaginal dryness or itching). It is used to prevent osteoporosis (weak bones) after menopause in certain patients. It is also used in certain patients to treat low estrogen levels, prostate cancer or breast cancer.

Generic Prevacid decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach. It is used to treat and prevent stomach and intestinal ulcers, erosive esophagitis (damage to the esophagus from stomach acid) and other conditions involving excessive stomach acid such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

Generic Prilosec is used for treating heartburn or irritation of the esophagus caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
